William Pinkney Ready

Bill has started another project, The Middle Passage Voyage. The following description was taken from his website. In the Fall of 1998, Captain Bill Pinkney, his crew, and the first of six groups of teachers will set sail from the British Virgin Islands on the Middle Passage Voyage. Over the next five months, the 80-foot ketch, named the "Middle Passage", will cover more than 20,000 miles. It will travel down the east coast of South America, cross the Atlantic Ocean to South Africa, sail along Africa's west coast and the hump of the Gulf of Guinea to Senegal, recross the Atlantic traveling the path of the slave ships to Cuba, then pull into port in Charleston, South Carolina. The Middle Passage will dock in many places, visiting cities and villages. The expedition team plans to meet with students in Brazil, Uruguay, South Africa, Ghana, Senegal and Cuba. As many know, Bill circumnavigated the globe on Commitment, a Valiant 47. On this trip, because of the number of crew, he will be using a boat other than a Valiant. Let's wish him well and a safe passage.
