Calypso handled the storm well as she sailed under double reefed main and storm staysail in 40 to 50 knots of wind. Arrived at Virgin Gorda in 8 days 23 hours. They were the 8th boat out of 60 in the fleet to arrive and, at the time, the smallest boat. From the BVI's they spent the winter sailing down island to our present location. They came back to Maine, via 747, for a few months and will head back down to Trinidad in Sept. and then off toward the Panama Canal. If all goes well they will transit the canal and head off into the So. Pacific, the long way back to Maine. They will send updates as they progress on our adventures.. Ham Call Letters: John-N1MQZ;.

After a season of cruising this wonderful part of the world, we had work done in the local shipyard, and did much of the preparation ourselves. This included complete cut back of the hull and deck. We had the bottom re-epoxied, and topsides done in AWLGRIP. The deck was getting worn and looked tatty because she has had many fittings replaced, removed and re positioned since her lay up in 1975. We also replaced the two aluminium water tanks with stainless steel ones. The exhaust system has also been replaced in stainless. All up, she looks beautiful! Plans are for continuing our cruising in Thailand this season, and heading "west" towards the Red Sea and the Med in January 2004.
